Wakaf Che Yeh is the night market locals send you to when you want the full Kota Bharu evening. Spread along Jalan Kuala Krai, it runs nightly and stays busy late, drawing a steady crowd of families, students, and traders. It is large, loud in the friendly way of a good pasar malam, and one of the cheapest places in the city to eat well and shop.
The food is the obvious draw. Stalls line up with the Kelantanese spread — nasi kerabu, ayam percik off the grill, freshly fried snacks, kuih, and sweet drinks to wash it all down — and you eat the local way, plate in hand, moving from stall to stall. Beyond the food it is a genuine general market: racks of clothing, fabric, shoes, accessories, household odds and ends, and souvenirs, much of it at the kind of prices that reward a little friendly bargaining.
The atmosphere is unhurried and easy. There is no entry fee and no rush; people come to eat, browse, meet friends, and let the evening pass. Arrive after dark, when the stalls are fully set up and the crowd is at its best.
Practical notes: Open most evenings until late. Bring cash, as most stalls do not take cards. Prices are already low, but polite bargaining is normal for clothing and goods. The food is halal, in keeping with Kelantan’s Muslim food culture.
