The weekend here is Friday and Saturday.
In Kelantan the weekend is Friday and Saturday, not Saturday and Sunday. The working and school week runs Sunday to Thursday. Government offices, banks and many official services close on Friday and Saturday. Friday is the quietest day for business: many shops and eateries shut or open late, especially around midday Friday prayers (roughly 12:30 to 2:30 pm). Sundays and Mondays, which feel like weekends elsewhere, are ordinary working days here.

School holidays 2026
Kelantan follows Group A (Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu), whose school week runs Sunday to Thursday. Term breaks fill beaches and markets, so they are worth planning around.
Timing your trip
Plan market mornings and government errands for Sunday to Thursday. Pasar Siti Khadijah, the central market run largely by women traders, is freshest in the early morning and thinner or partly closed on Fridays. During the big holiday clusters, especially Hari Raya Aidilfitri in March, expect many family-run shops to close for several days while people return to their kampung.
