Menora is a dance-theatre with roots in the shared Thai-Malay culture of the far north, kept alive especially in the Tumpat area where Kelantan meets the Thai border. It is a feast for the eyes: elaborate beaded costumes and tall headdresses, fast and intricate hand and finger movement, and storytelling drawn from old legend, all driven by a live percussion ensemble.
It is one of the clearest expressions of Kelantan’s multicultural fabric, the same border country that gave the state its Thai Buddhist temples and cross-cultural cooking.
